Alea Galbadis
Bio
Alea Galbadis is a senior BFA fashion design student at Parsons School of Design. Texture and appliqué hold equal importance to silhouette in her design practice, and her affinity for materiality has opened new doors for creative expression. Her work is an ongoing exploration of identity and the experiences that have shaped her. Deeply connected to her relationship with femininity, it engages themes of nostalgia, girlhood, dreams, fantasy, and self-understanding. She values the importance of collaboration and feels uplifted by the community of designers that surround her. Ultimately, her goal is to grow and evolve through the clothing she creates, while simultaneously making others feel seen, inspired, and a sense of magic.
Little Miss Perfect
Through this collection, I seek to separate femininity from perfection by dismantling their deep entanglement. The expectations we have been taught to embody as women have collapsed genuine feminine expression into an unattainable ideal. My attraction to the softness, sensuality and compassion emulated by women reveal themselves as a site of authenticity rather than a pursuit of appeasing standards. Through tedious labors of love, I embraced freedom and flaw, confronting my own internalized perfectionism.
Through this personal exploration, I found myself reconnecting with the young girl inside of me. She lived not in accordance with societal projections; but by her limitless imagination. Knowing this experience is shared, my work sets out to illuminate women’s authentic beauty whilst rejecting idealization as a measure of our femininity.
