Bio

Candice/Sijia Xu is an interdisciplinary fashion designer. Her work moves across garments, jewelry, and image-making, approaching fashion as an evolving system rather than a fixed discipline. Shaped by early experience of growing up in industrial environments in China, her practice draws from observations of structure, repetition, and movement. Her work extends toward building a space where fashion, technology, and cultural narrative intersect, allowing individual experience to be carried, shared, and continuously reinterpreted.

Thesis Statement

This collection is rooted in my connection to the factory. Having spent half of my childhood in factory environments, I saw this seemingly cold mechanical space as a playground, shaping my understanding of rhythm, structure, and flow. Inspired by assembly lines and corporate logos, the garments use curved seams to create fluid yet structured forms that move with the body. Extracting denim elements from workers’ uniforms, utilizing silver colors to replicate the mechanical presence.

Target Audience

This collection is designed for a contemporary urban wearer drawn to concept-driven design, strong silhouettes, and directional structure. It speaks to those who use clothing to express identity and taste rather than trends.

It also resonates with audiences who have emotional connections to manufacturing, including engineers, supply chain and production professionals, and second-generation family business inheritors, who recognize the rhythm and reality behind industrial systems.
