"KATIE"

My mothers story is one of triumph, love, tragedy, success, motherhood, cancer, kindness, and heartbreak.

She was a woman with a telling story with a wardrobe that mirrored the stages of her life. While honoring my mothers life, I created a collection which follows her pivotal life moments to uplift and challenge her personal style as if I were dressing her now.

Utilizing her personal clothing and silhouettes she gravitated towards. This is Katie.
Image: I created garments that embody my mother’s style and her gradual shift in dressing as her illness progressed. While I do not want her cancer to define the collection, I do want to acknowledge the challenges that come with that experience.

The universal realities of treatment, such as chemotherapy and hair loss, and the emotional complexities surrounding body image and confidence. Dressing became difficult for her, and through this work I imagine myself dressing her now — uplifting her through clothing. I want to redefine the visual and emotional language often tied to illness, transforming garments associated with fragility into ones of strength, beauty, and resilience.

Image: I am exploring my mother in all her forms: a rebellious teenager, a college student, a businesswoman, a mother, and a cancer patient, a distinct woman, each with contrasting approaches to self-presentation. Through this collection, I consider comfort, functionality, and elegance, the qualities that best capture how I remember her. Above all, I hope to share her story, honoring and celebrating a remarkable woman and the life she lived.
