Edifice
Edifice explores construction sites and techniques as a visual foundation for textiles and silhouette. Drawing on a nostalgic view of my family’s history in construction, these memories are translated into various textiles created from lightweight fabrics pick-stitched together, nails embedded in leather, parchment paper fused to organza, and linen coated in ink and acrylic medium. Each look is made from deadstock or secondhand fabrics and all closures and buttons are made from scrap and recycled metals.
Bio
Caroline Watterson is a New York-based designer whose practice examines where intensity and rigidity give way to softness. Originally from Washington, D.C., their work is deeply informed by research into manual labor and trades, a focus rooted in formative years spent outdoors repairing sailboats, restoring bicycles, and working on construction sites.
