Cher Wang
Bio
Cher is a fashion designer whose work explores new silhouettes through draping and fabric manipulation. With a background in painting, she develops a strong sensitivity to color, often incorporating her own paintings and photography into layered printmaking. Her designs reconstruct Parisian tailoring with fluidity through techniques such as ruching and distortion. Drawing from her multicultural background, her work reflects an interest in hybrid identity and the balance between structure and movement.
Fragments of Becoming
This collection explores identity shaped across multiple cultural contexts and how it resists fixed definition. Rooted in my experience of growing up between cultures, the work considers identity as something formed through fragments rather than confined to a singular framework.
Through the manipulation of traditional tailoring, combined with distortion, layering, and reconstruction, the garments shift between structure and fluidity. Prints developed from my own photographs and paintings, alongside ribbon constructions and Swarovski bead embellishments, create surfaces that appear assembled and in motion.
The collection reimagines belonging as something formed through hybridity and in-between spaces.
