Bio
Jina Chung, a designer who works at the edges of traditional tailoring, reimagining its conventions and exploring new ways it can exist. Her pieces are tranquil and functional, shaped through careful patternmaking and an interest in how clothing can hold personal stories and deliver emotion. She plays with design to reveal the quiet beauty of what often goes unseen, particularly the intimacy of hand sewing.
Inspired by my Korean grandparents, Architecture of Aging, is a collection that explores the beauty of aging. It examines the relationship between care, memory, and the body, responding to both physical and cognitive changes over time.
The patternmaking reflects ideas of support, repair, and reinforcement, revealing my grandfather’s dementia and my grandmother’s physical discomfort. Rather than seeking to fix function limitations. The garments emotionally embody and support the lived experience of aging together.
