Quinn Fertig

Collection

Bio

Quinn Shore Fertig is a New York born designer whose work examines what it means to dress and be seen as a woman. Informed by an upbringing shaped by preppy sports culture and traditional menswear, she reclaims these codes.

For her BFA Capstone Collection at Parsons, She, in Public, Quinn explores historical perceptions of femininity alongside interviews with transgender women, revealing the shifting visual cues of “passing” as a woman in public. Upcycled Western menswear and Japanese kimonos are reconstructed through corsetry and tailored precision, centering visibility in a world that often ignores trans existence.

Rooted in textile development, sustainability, and technical rigor, her work redefines how clothing is constructed, perceived, and worn, honoring the nuance of transition and celebrating the spectrum of womanhood.

THESIS STATEMENT

What does it mean to dress like a woman? Researching historical perceptions and interviewing transgender women, reveal women embrace different visual cues.

"She, in Public" pays homage to transwomen’s complexity and diverse interpretations of "passing" as a woman in public.
Upcycling western men’s clothing and Japanese kimonos combine to celebrate visibility in a world that ignores trans existence.

Analyzing nuance - in all stages of transition - directly inspired the function, silhouette, texture, and “story” of my collection, which celebrates all women.
