Bio

Ria Wadhwa is an Indian fashion designer based in New York, focused on body-contour design, intimate apparel, and both knit and woven design. Her work merges artistry, functionality, and storytelling through craftsmanship, detail, and emotional connection. Through beading, embroidery, textile manipulation, and construction-led techniques, she explores form, surface, texture, and how garments interact with the body. Her design approach balances softness and structure, creating modern, thoughtful pieces that feel expressive, wearable, and rooted in personal expression.

AFTER THE GAZE

Ria’s collection draws inspiration from her own stretch marks, exploring how the body records personal histories over time. The work examines the intersection between natural bodily change and cultural systems that label these transformations as flaws. It seeks to shift the gaze from correction to recognition, positioning these marks as integral part to the body’s narrative.
Rather than treating physical changes as faults, these garments function as continuous visual maps of memory. Utilising stretch fabrics, sheer layering, and uninterrupted structural lines, the garment wraps the body to subtly shift perception, honouring transformation as a deeply personal, evolving reality.
