Bio

Toh Ling is a multidisciplinary artist from Singapore, currently based in New York City. Her work explores the themes of the human psyche, politics, and culture/identity. While her primary practice is in Fashion Design, she dabbles in Photography and Fine Arts, seeking to use various mediums to craft powerful visual narratives. She often incorporates embroidery, felting, beading, and machine knitting in her textile work and hopes to continue engaging in sustainable, slow crafts.

On the Ground

‘On the Ground’ deals with Singapore’s political system through the lens of an opposition party volunteer. Examining electoral maps through hand embroidery and machine knitting, the collection questions Singapore’s flawed democracy and the positions of power that are held by men.

Each look represents a member in civic society, calling for collective action, greater accountability, and the hope for more progressive women in politics.
