BFA AWARD: Innovative Womenswear Designer of the Year
Yue Wu is a fashion designer from Yiwu, China. Her work explores instability, memory, and transformation through deconstructed silhouettes and material manipulation. Drawing from personal experiences, she creates garments that navigate between fragility and protection, balancing emotion with experimentation.
Fragmented Stillness
Fragmented Stillness explores the friction between movement and the longing for pause. Growing up between constant relocation and the demolition of familiar homes, I’ve come to see stability as both fragile and temporary. Through material erosion and deconstruction, including scraping, burnout, draping, and layering, I translate the emotional wear of displacement into form. References to covered furniture and domestic fragments evoke the tension between safety and abandonment.
Ultimately, the collection asks: If stillness cannot be found, can it be remembered? If safety never arrives, can it be imagined?
