Bio

Xinwei Zhang is a designer working across accessories and body-based installations, exploring the relationship between the feminine body, subconscious desire, and monstrosity.

Drawn to the figure of the monster as a way of understanding the unaccepted yet undeniable parts of the self, she uses 3D modeling and printing to create wearable objects that exist between cute and weird. By blurring the boundary between adornment and organism, her work transforms the body into something that feels alive, unstable, and self-defined.

MONSTRESS ILLUSION draws from female monster figures in Chinese mythology, where they embody seduction, desire, danger, and resistance to social norms. Inspired by these narratives and traditional totems, I transform the female body into a new symbolic language.
Abstracted vulva motifs merge with organic structures, materialized through 3D-printed resin and metal to form uncanny yet powerful objects. Wrapped in vibrant, candy-like fuchsia and purple tones, the work oscillates between attraction and unease. The series celebrates the female body while reclaiming it as a site of power, challenging the boundaries imposed upon it.
